The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology has joined hands with Alternative Petroleum & Power Limited (APPL) and LONGi Solar France SARL to launch a Solar Modular Master Supply Agreement worth 2,600MW. These cutting-edge solar modules will be the backbone of Nigeria’s Green Hydrogen Hub Project – a pioneering endeavor set to position the country as a key player in clean energy production on a global scale.

With vast solar resources at its disposal, Nigeria aims to leverage this natural wealth to propel itself into the green hydrogen value chain. As Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Director General & CEO of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), puts it, “Deploying LONGi’s high-efficiency modules in Nigeria’s hot, humid climate means more energy yield per square meter and faster return on investment.” This synergy between advanced technology and untapped African potential holds the promise of transformation across various sectors.

Once operational, the Green Hydrogen Hub will drive green hydrogen production at an industrial scale, fostering exports, local manufacturing, and clean mobility options – particularly within marine and heavy transport industries. By integrating with blue economy strategies such as maritime logistics and offshore oil transitions while producing 500 metric tonnes per day of Green Medical Oxygen, this initiative symbolizes progress towards cleaner industrial practices.
