Spotlight on Talent

Beyond the numbers and standings lies a deeper significance attached to the NDSF—the nurturing ground for budding talent within grassroots sports development across the Niger Delta region. Itiako Ikpokpo, Co-Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, shed light on this transformative aspect by revealing that over sixty promising athletes have been identified through diligent scouting efforts involving coaches, ex-athletes, and talent scouts. More notably, many of these identified talents did not necessarily clinch gold but showcased exceptional potential—a testament to the festival’s broader mission beyond mere victories.

“This festival is not about who came first or who won gold,” emphasized Mr. Ikpokpo. “Our scouts are looking for potential—raw talent that can be groomed for the future.”

The post-festival agenda involves investing in these discovered talents through structured training programs led by certified coaches—a vital step towards nurturing future athletic stars within Nigeria’s sporting landscape.
