Ohanaezes Concern A Call for Airport Repairs & Tinubus Support

The sun shone brightly over the bustling city of Enugu, in Nigeria’s South-east region. The usual hum of activity was disrupted by a piece of unsettling news – the sudden closure of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport. This pivotal transport hub had been temporarily shut down by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to address urgent repairs on a damaged section of the runway.

As travelers scrambled to rearrange their plans, airlines were forced to divert or cancel flights scheduled to and from the airport. Among those affected were Igbos and other air transport users, especially during the busy Easter period when journeys peak.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Speaks Out

In response to this development, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural organization, raised its voice in protest. The organization’s spokesperson, Ezichi Chukwu, expressed deep concern over what they perceived as an inconsiderate timing for the airport closure. While acknowledging the importance of ensuring safety for passengers and aircraft, Mr. Chukwu emphasized that better management could have mitigated disruptions during such a crucial travel season.

A Plea for Timely Resolution

Amidst their frustration, Ohanaeze called upon influential figures for intervention. They specifically appealed to President Bola Tinubu for immediate action towards reconstructing the entire runaway instead of temporary fixes that had proved ineffective in the past. This plea underscored a broader concern about recurrent runway failures at Akanu Ibiam International Airport over recent years.

As they sought support from Mr. Tinubu, Ohanaeze also urged FAAN to proactively monitor all airport runways across Nigeria to prevent potential safety hazards. Their message resonated with calls for accountability within aviation management and highlighted the need for comprehensive infrastructure upgrades aligned with global standards.

Rallying for Sustainable Solutions

Looking beyond mere repairs, Ohanaeze stressed the significance of completing ongoing projects like the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu. They commended efforts by the local government but pressed for full operationalization under federal oversight to enhance efficiency and safety standards.

Through these advocacy efforts and appeals for decisive action from key stakeholders like President Tinubu and aviation authorities, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide aimed not just at resolving immediate challenges but also at fostering long-term sustainability in air travel infrastructure across Nigeria.

From Enugu’s vibrant streets to high above in airplane cabins, every voice calling for improved airport facilities echoed with hopes for smoother landings and takeoffs – ensuring that journeys begin and end with peace of mind amidst Nigeria’s skies.
