Over half a million people in Sudan are on the brink of a remarkable change – access to clean, safe, and reliable water. This transformation is made possible through an ambitious project led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and generously funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).
The 12-month initiative, named “Enhancing Access to Water Infrastructure for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), refugees, and host communities,” is set to bring hope and relief to communities deeply affected by Sudan’s ongoing crisis. With over 12 million individuals fleeing violence and facing heightened risks of disease, food scarcity, and economic challenges, this project couldn’t come at a more crucial time.
Fueled by a substantial $2 million grant from KFAED, this project will span across 24 high-priority locations within four states. The goal is clear: deliver essential water resources where they are needed most urgently.

This collaborative effort includes setting up 24 Water User Associations tasked with managing these vital resources efficiently. Through small commercial-use fees collected by these associations, repairs can be funded seamlessly while keeping household water usage free of charge.
