The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) recently made a significant stride in bolstering educational infrastructure with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Utility Building at the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), located in Akwa Ibom State. This landmark project marks the inauguration of the first building completed to specification and ready for use at the university’s Permanent Site, which was established just last year in June 2021.

On a momentous Monday, 26th May 2025, Hon. The Vice Chancellor of FUTIA, Prof. Leo Daniel, extended his gratitude on behalf of the entire university community – including the Governing Council, Management, Staff, and Students – towards TETFund for their unwavering support and contributions to various thematic areas within tertiary institutions nationwide.

Prof. Daniel specifically commended the Federal Government for leveraging TETFund as a specialized mechanism driving infrastructural advancements across Nigerian academic institutions. With expertise in Aeronautics and Astronautics himself, Professor Daniel praised Arc. Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, for his visionary leadership that has propelled such transformative initiatives forward.

During his address at FUTIA’s Takeoff Campus, Hon. Aboh Uduyok emphasized that their visit was part of an overarching strategy by TETFund to inspect ongoing projects like this Utility Building while also monitoring progress and addressing any emerging challenges firsthand. Uduyok applauded FUTIA’s management for their meticulous oversight of projects and commended the contractors responsible for delivering quality work within set timelines.

In expressing her appreciation during a vote of thanks ceremony following the commissioning event, Mrs. Offiongita Nkang – Registrar of FUTIA – thanked key stakeholders including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Arc. Sonny Echono for their support towards various interventions at the university. She further acknowledged Hon. Aboh Uduyok and his delegation for visiting FUTIA as part of their familiarization tour which culminated in inaugurating this essential Utility Building on campus.

Mrs Nkang also recognized Good Works Associated Services Limited for ensuring prompt completion with high-quality standards while acknowledging host communities surrounding the university for fostering a peaceful environment conducive to both development endeavors and academic pursuits.
