As Nigerians celebrated Eid-el-Kabir, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) extended heartfelt felicitations, urging citizens to embrace the occasion for deep reflection amidst the nation’s socio-economic challenges. The PDP emphasized a need for spiritual rededication and unwavering faith in divine mercy. Meanwhile, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) called on Muslims to follow Prophet Mohammed’s virtues of compassion, humility, peace, and justice during the festive period.
In a statement by Debo Ologunagba, PDP expressed appreciation for Nigerians’ resilience amid adversity but criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government. The opposition party urged the APC to address what it termed as
“rampant profligacy, exploitation, and deceit,”
which has negatively impacted citizens’ hopes and dignity. The PDP highlighted concerns about escalating insecurity and the challenging economic conditions faced by many Nigerians under the current administration.
The PDP accused the APC of overseeing a deteriorating economy and engaging in irresponsible borrowing practices without benefiting citizens adequately. Furthermore, they called for a thorough investigation into alleged financial malpractices that led to substantial funds being siphoned from fraudulent oil deals—an amount estimated at over N30 trillion.
“The looted funds must be redirected towards revitalizing our infrastructure, boosting productive sectors, and enhancing national security agencies,”
stated the PDP. They also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize policies that demonstrate compassion, prudence, and accountability during his remaining tenure.
Encouraging national introspection during Eid-el-Kabir festivities, the PDP emphasized aligning governance with principles of truth and justice. They called on Nigerians not to lose hope but to remain patriotic and supportive of one another through challenging times. Collective prayers were underscored as essential in seeking divine intervention for national restoration.
Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle from IPAC echoed similar sentiments by emphasizing prayers for peace, love, tolerance, unity—emphasizing collective patriotism to steer Nigeria towards progress. He stressed building a strong democratic society where all individuals benefit equitably from governance initiatives.
Dantalle further expressed condolences over recent flooding incidents in Niger State that claimed lives and displaced thousands. He urged proactive measures from governments at all levels to prevent similar tragedies while calling on citizens to support affected individuals during these trying times.
In conclusion,
the call for national reflection issued by PDP alongside allegations of mismanagement against APC sheds light on ongoing political dynamics shaping Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape amidst festive celebrations like Eid-el-Kabir.
