APCs Transformation A Haven for Political Redemption – Expert Analysis

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, recently made waves with his striking comments about the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Describing the party as a “gathering of sinners,

” Dalung painted a vivid picture of politicians flocking to the APC not out of genuine belief but as a means of seeking political absolution. In his view, these individuals are joining the APC not to embrace its ideology or leadership, but solely for the purpose of having their past misdeeds forgiven.

During an interview with journalists, Dalung referenced former Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole’s alleged statement that entering the APC guarantees forgiveness regardless of past wrongdoings. He expressed deep concern over what he perceives as a concerning trend, stating, “

These are people who have committed heinous crimes against the Nigerian people… They are only assembling so that their sins will be forgiven.

Dalung did not mince words when characterizing the APC, likening it to “

a conclave of political cardinals who have committed grave sins against the Nigerian people.

” He went further to suggest that the party has evolved into a sanctuary where corrupt politicians seek shelter from accountability and consequences.

The seasoned politician and chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) also raised doubts about whether these defections would bolster the administration led by Bola Tinubu. Instead, he warned that such moves could sow seeds of future discord within the party itself. Drawing on a poignant adage in Hausa culture, Dalung questioned whether celebrating defections equates to widespread public support shifting allegiances.

In response to speculations surrounding former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s rumored interest in joining SDP and its potential impact on Prince Adewole Adebayo’s presidential candidacy in 2023, Dalung offered reassurance. He declared Adebayo as a dominant figure within SDP politics whose charisma, media presence, and unwavering opposition to unpopular government policies position him strongly for future elections.

Nigerians are very familiar with Adebayo’s voice… Whether you mobilize all politicians into SDP… No one has promoted SDP more than him,” affirmed Dalung regarding Adebayo’s significance within the party landscape. With Dalung’s insightful remarks shedding light on internal party dynamics and strategic maneuvering ahead of key electoral contests, it becomes evident that behind every political move lies a complex interplay of motives and ambitions.
