Christian and Muslim Unity in Kaduna Celebrating Eid-il-Kabir for Peace

In a vibrant display of harmony and cooperation, Pastor (Dr.) Yohanna Buru, a respected Christian leader in Kaduna, united with thousands of Muslims on June 5, 2025. The gathering took place at the Eid-il-Kabir prayer ground in Murtala Mohammed Square. This event was not just about prayers but also about fostering peace, love, and religious tolerance.

Pastor Buru’s participation symbolized his unwavering dedication to promoting interfaith dialogue. It was the fifth consecutive year that he and his group from the Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry took part in the Eid celebrations. Such interactions between Christians and Muslims are essential for building bridges of understanding.

During his address at the event, Pastor Buru extended warm wishes to prominent Muslim figures like the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, as well as esteemed scholars such as Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and Sheikh Ahmad Gumi. He emphasized the reciprocal nature of goodwill gestures by mentioning how Muslims join Christians during Christmas festivities.

“We must remember that we are all one family under God,”

Pastor Buru stated emphatically.

“Both the Qur’an and the Bible advocate for peace because ultimately we are all descendants of Adam and Eve.”

His words underscored the shared values that bind people across different faiths.

The call for unity resonated beyond Pastor Buru’s speech as Reverend George John echoed similar sentiments. He highlighted the importance of solidarity among diverse religious communities.

“We stand together as one family under God,”

Reverend George reiterated during his address at the prayer ground.

Muslim leaders reciprocated this gesture with appreciation towards Kaduna State for being a torchbearer in promoting religious harmony. Mallam Sunusi Surajo from the organizing committee expressed hopes that such peaceful coexistence would proliferate throughout Nigeria.

Notable dignitaries graced this auspicious occasion including Kaduna State Deputy Governor Hajiya Balaraba Sabuwa and former Governor Alhaji (Dr.) Ramalan Yero alongside Islamic scholars and traditional leaders. The presence of these esteemed individuals underscored the significance of interfaith collaboration in fostering national unity.

Eid-il-Kabir served not only as a moment for spiritual introspection but also as a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to interfaith endeavors. Amidst regional tensions driven by religion and ethnicity, Pastor Buru’s consistent engagement exemplifies hope for unity amidst diversity.

This celebration showcased that regardless of religious backgrounds or affiliations, when individuals come together to prioritize peace, love, and unity—profound transformations can occur within communities leading to a more harmonious society where everyone feels secure and valued.
