Egypts Call for Palestinian Statehood and Dialogue on US-Iran Nuclear Relations

In a passionate address at the Oslo Forum in Norway, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdelatty, raised strong concerns over the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. He vehemently criticized Israel’s actions, emphasizing the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire and international acknowledgment of a Palestinian state to foster peace and stability in the volatile Middle East region.

Abdelatty condemned Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. He decried the extensive destruction inflicted upon Gaza by Israel, describing it as a calculated strategy to limit the choices available to its inhabitants, forcibly displace them, and further expand its occupation of Palestinian territories. The minister underscored a global consensus supporting a two-state solution and reiterated Egypt’s unwavering commitment to ending hostilities, resolving the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and ensuring unimpeded access to vital aid.

Highlighting Egypt’s proactive role in mitigating violence, Abdelatty referenced a comprehensive plan for Gaza’s reconstruction endorsed at an Arab summit held in Cairo on March 4, 2025. He announced Egypt’s intention to convene an international conference focused on early recovery and reconstruction efforts immediately following cessation of hostilities—a crucial step towards healing the war-torn region.

During sideline discussions at the forum, Abdelatty engaged in a trilateral meeting with his Omani counterpart, Badr Albusaidi, and Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi. Emphasizing Egypt’s primary objective of de-escalation and conflict prevention in the region, he stressed that military interventions were not viable solutions for regional crises. The minister also expressed Egypt’s support for ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

Citing a meeting held on June 2 in Cairo with his Iranian counterpart alongside key representatives from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Abdelatty lauded Oman’s mediation efforts while commending Washington’s and Tehran’s commitment to diplomatic dialogue. He reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for initiatives aimed at easing tensions and bolstering stability across the Middle East.

Participating actively in various sessions during the 2025 Oslo Forum—an eminent platform dedicated to mediating international conflicts—Abdelatty contributed insights during panel discussions themed
