#TrendingNews: Crows Wreaking Havoc on Power Supply in Ashanti Region! 🐦💡
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is facing a feathered foe in the Ashanti Region as crows wreak havoc on critical transmission infrastructure, causing power outages and operational challenges for consumers across multiple districts.
The Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region of ECG reports a surge in crow attacks on installations, resulting in frequent disruptions and service interruptions. Collins Manu, Head of Public Relations for the Ashanti Sub-Transmission, vows to redouble efforts to restore uninterrupted power supply.
Recent control operations reveal the severity of the issue, with key feeders like Barekese, Akyawkrom, Effiduase, and Kumawu among the worst-hit areas. Over 92 nests were discovered on the Akyawkrom-Kuntenase-Bekwai transmission lines, posing significant electrical hazards.
The culprits’ nests, constructed with metallic materials, are causing electrical faults and equipment damage, while droppings are creating conductive paths that lead to insulation breakdowns and increased maintenance costs.
In response, ECG officials, including Ing. Frederick Kwabena Bediako and Ing. Daniel Mensah Asare, are spearheading efforts to address the crisis. Preventive measures such as bird spikes, nest removal, and enhanced system design are being implemented to safeguard infrastructure and stabilize power supply.
