Nigerian musician Kelly Hansome, also known as Orji Kelechi Obinna George Michael, recently stirred the music industry with shocking revelations about his past experiences. In a revealing video for an upcoming podcast, the ‘Maga Don Pay’ singer exposed some heavyweight figures in the music scene.
“I was informed a show I did was worth N450k, but they paid N6 million.”
Hansome delved into his turbulent history with his former record label, Kennis Music. He recounted a disheartening incident where he discovered that a show he performed at, allegedly valued at N450k, actually raked in N6 million. Feeling cheated, Hansome halted the performance midway to protest his underpayment.
The artist further disclosed details of an endorsement deal worth a staggering N140 million in the video snippets he shared on social media. Amidst these revelations, Hansome cautioned against rushing to judgment without understanding the full narrative behind his confrontations.
“Some people excel at tarnishing others’ reputations until it was my turn.”
In a bold move, Kelly Hansome called out Kenny Ogungbe, co-owner of Kennis Music, accusing him of sabotaging interviews and stifling his musical career during their ongoing feud. Despite his undeniable talent, Hansome claimed that Kennis Music obstructed the promotion of his work.
The singer didn’t shy away from implicating veteran artist D’banj either. He narrated an incident where D’banj supposedly requested him to safeguard a laptop during a run-in with law enforcement. This account adds another layer to Hansome’s penchant for airing grievances against established names in Nigerian music.
This isn’t the first time Kelly Hansome has pointed fingers within the industry; previously alleging involvement by Don Jazzy in an arrest orchestrated with SARS forces that led to his transfer from Kano to Abuja while handcuffed.
These revelations shed light on the complexities and challenges faced by artists navigating their careers within competitive and sometimes treacherous music landscapes.
