Some residents of the Kogi Central Senatorial District gathered on a Thursday afternoon, their determination unwavering in their quest to recall their senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from her role at the National Assembly. Led by Salihu Habib, they declared that there was no turning back on this crucial process; instead, they vowed to refine and strengthen it.
“The petitioners are resolute in their decision to recall the senator,” stated Habib firmly. This sentiment echoed across the community as they believed that despite the senator’s perceived popularity among constituents, her actions warranted accountability and possible removal from office.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) came into focus as a pivotal player in this unfolding saga. The petitioners expressed gratitude towards INEC for what they perceived as a step towards validation by allegedly confirming 208,132 signatures in the recall petition. Although INEC had not officially declared this validation, it fueled the determination of those seeking Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recall.
