The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) firmly denied recent allegations suggesting that the Police Service Commission (PSC) encountered difficulties accessing its verification platforms. Rejecting these claims as “misleading and inaccurate,
” the NIMC emphasized that all its verification service platforms are fully operational and accessible to authorized partners, including security agencies.
Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of NIMC’s Corporate Communications Unit, clarified in a statement that the NIMC has granted verification access to all Nigerian Police formations for National Identification Number (NIN) validation. He stated, “
The NPF, PSC, and other security agencies have been utilizing uninterrupted verification services for over five years.”
Highlighting the longstanding collaboration between the NIMC and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Commission underscored the essential role of its verification services in police recruitment processes and other operational activities. The NIMC affirmed that it has not received any complaints from either the NPF or PSC regarding access to its verification systems.
Moreover, it was noted that structural enhancements to the verification framework were recently implemented in consultation with the Office of the National Security Adviser to enhance standardization and service quality. Despite this, any potential interruption in service experienced by the PSC was attributed to internal matters.
In reiterating its dedication to national security, NIMC reiterated its commitment to providing reliable verification services essential for recruitment procedures, cybercrime prevention efforts, security mapping activities, and other official functions. The Commission urged partner agencies to adhere strictly to agreed terms and conditions for seamless access.
Additionally shedding light on recent events surrounding database access challenges faced by law enforcement agencies during a planned recruitment drive announcement at NDPC’s visit on Wednesday – Chairman of PSC Hashimu Argungu expressed frustrations over their inability to access NIMC’s database effectively hindering identity verifications for applicants.
Argungu sought intervention from Dr. Vincent Olatunji at NDPC stressing how crucial this database access is for fulfilling PSC’s constitutional obligations towards effective applicant screening.
It’s evident that maintaining smooth collaboration between government bodies is crucial for efficient operations and ensuring national security measures remain robust amidst evolving challenges.
