Police Intervention Halts Senator Natashas Rally in Okene Local Government Area

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Kogi Central District had her plans thwarted by the police in Okene. The Kogi Police Commissioner, Miller Dantawaye, took a stand against the rally organized by the senator. The decision was made public through a statement issued on behalf of the commissioner by Williams Ovye-Aya, the command’s spokesperson based in Lokoja.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan faced suspension for six months from the Senate due to alleged misconduct. Her suspension followed accusations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Furthermore, steps were initiated to remove her from office.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) disclosed that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan intended to visit her constituency during Sallah celebrations. Her alleged plan included organizing a rally to protest an ongoing recall process against her. The purpose of her visit was to connect with her community and constituents, aiming at fostering unity and collaboration for the district’s progress.

However, prior intelligence reports on security threats prompted the state government to prohibit all forms of rallies and processions in Kogi State. This ban was established as a preventive measure against potential disruptions by hoodlums during public gatherings.

“The call for cancellation became necessary following intelligence revelations that some hoodlums planned to hijack the process and cause disturbance of peace in the state,”

stated Commissioner Dantawaye, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and order within Kogi State.

In light of these security concerns, stakeholders were strongly advised to cancel any planned events likely to disrupt law and order. The police commissioner conveyed a stern warning that legal consequences awaited anyone who endangered public safety or violated existing regulations.

Ensuring public safety remains a top priority for law enforcement agencies; therefore, precautions must be taken to prevent any form of unrest that could jeopardize citizens’ well-being.
