Shafa Energy, a leading player in Nigeria’s sustainable energy sector, has made a groundbreaking move by launching its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) division. The inauguration of the first CNG station in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja, signifies a crucial shift towards cleaner and more cost-effective energy solutions in the country.
Yakubu A. Maishanu, Executive Chairman and CEO of AYM Shafa Holdings Limited, expressed the company’s dedication to providing Nigerians with a greener and more affordable alternative to traditional petrol. He stated during the commissioning ceremony,
“This station is a testament to AYM Shafa’s commitment to reducing long queues and offering Nigerians a cleaner, more affordable alternative to petrol.”
The strategic vision of Shafa Energy includes establishing 20 CNG stations nationwide as part of their initiative to enhance supply security and promote sustainable energy practices. Ibrahim Abiodun Ali, Managing Director of Shafa Energy, emphasized the operational efficiency of the company’s fleet dedicated to transporting CNG across Nigeria.
Ali highlighted that each delivery will average 6,000 cubic meters using three casket trucks with safety and regulatory compliance measures in place. The advanced infrastructure at the facility includes high-performance compressors and dispensers capable of delivering significant volumes of CNG per hour efficiently.
In support of Nigeria’s clean energy agenda, Michael Oluwagbemi from the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) commended AYM Shafa for aligning with national goals to eliminate fuel subsidies through natural gas utilization. Oluwagbemi underscored the importance of expanding access to CNG across Nigeria given its abundant natural gas reserves.
He stressed that leveraging natural gas for various sectors such as transportation and industry is crucial for driving economic growth and sustainability. With increasing demand evident at the Sabon Lugbe station launch event, Oluwagbemi highlighted the critical role of private sector involvement in reshaping Nigeria’s energy landscape.
According to him, initiatives like Shafa Energy’s CNG project play a pivotal role in realizing a more sustainable and economically viable energy future for the nation. The government aims to encourage private sector innovation while ensuring that infrastructure development keeps pace with growing demand for cleaner energy alternatives.
In conclusion, Shafa Energy’s pioneering efforts mark an essential step towards transforming Nigeria’s energy sector by promoting eco-friendly practices and reducing dependency on traditional fossil fuels. As more companies embrace sustainable solutions like CNG, it paves the way for a greener tomorrow built on innovation and environmental stewardship.
