The United Nations commemorated the forthcoming centennial of Beijing’s historic Palace Museum with a captivating stamp release and exhibition debut at its New York headquarters. The event, named “Endless Vitality: UN Stamp Launch & Palace Museum Exhibition,” highlighted the rich cultural heritage and profound legacy of the former imperial palace. Co-organized by the Palace Museum and the UN Chinese Book Club, in collaboration with the Global Sustainable Development Goals and Leadership Development Centre, the occasion showcased a unique stamp series crafted by the UN Postal Administration to honor the museum’s 100th anniversary and International Museum Day. These stamps, adorned with 10 exquisite floral designs inspired by the museum’s diverse collection of ancient artifacts, represent centuries of cross-cultural interactions and artistic expressions. Wu Di, the director of the Cultural and Creative Development Department of the Palace Museum, emphasized the significance of preserving and innovating China’s cultural legacy through environmentally conscious initiatives, support for individuals with disabilities, and rural rejuvenation projects. Formerly known as China’s Forbidden City, the Palace Museum served as the opulent abode and administrative center for 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties, spanning from the 15th century to the early 20th century. The release of these commemorative stamps not only pays tribute to the Palace Museum’s remarkable history but also underscores the enduring importance of cultural exchange and heritage preservation on a global scale.
